A suction bowl is the small thing that saves your sanity at the weaning stage. The base grips the highchair tray so the bowl does not get flung onto the floor every two minutes, which means fewer spills, less clearing up and a baby who can have a proper go at feeding themselves. It suits roughly six months and up, right through the toddler self-feeding years.

What to look for

Our pick

This set of three stacking bowls is a sensible everyday choice. The suction base holds well on a clean highchair tray, the sides are deep enough for scooping, and they are safe in the dishwasher and microwave. Having three means one is always clean while the others are in the wash, and they nest neatly in the cupboard. Good from around six months through the toddler years.

You really do not need the priciest set on the shelf. A simple, well-made bowl that grips the tray and survives the dishwasher will do the job for years, so spend the saving on a decent bib instead.
